Project partners
The project is therefore structured starting from collecting the material to be recycled (RAEE), continuing to the definition of an industrially optimised process and the characterisation and testing of the finished prototype directly exploitable by a producer/user of electrical equipment (EEE). A research organisation with operational units will therefore carry out the project initiative and, as an additional added value to the proposal, companies involved in the RAEE chain (from the point of view of both production and treatment of the objects); the aim is to define and validate an initial recycling chain for rare earth magnets already during the project.
The project aims to address the topic from all angles, involving a scientific partnership under the INSTM Consortium consisting of university experts on the issues of electrical machines and magnets, metallurgy, polymers and grinding, shaping and heat treatment processes. This university team, which touches on all the points necessary for the development of the process and prototype, is flanked by four companies directly involved in the RAEE chain from the disposal and production point of view, which can provide their purely industrial know-how and a company dedicated to the development of highly automated solutions. In particular, RISTA Srl and DEMAP in the role of suppliers of the secondary raw material (RAEE) and experts in the logistics of waste treatment, OSAI A.S. SpA as a constructor of an ad hoc robotised device for the correct treatment of the object resulting from the recovery of RAEE, and SITEM Srl in the role of end-user of the prototypes developed in the project and producer of (EEE).
Partners:
- INSTM Consortium - lead partner
The National Inter-University Consortium for Science and Technology-INSTM, active in the Italian and international research scene since 1992, brings together the expertise of 50 Italian public universities. The collaboration between the consortium and consortium members is regulated by specific framework conventions and operating agreements signed with all 50 universities.
- DEMAP
The company deals with sorting and treating municipal waste from separate collections. DEMAP has many years of experience in automatic sorting by means of optical detection and the valorisation of plastics.
- RISTA Srl
The company deals with the disposal and treatment of industrial and special waste. In addition, RISTA WASTE has experience in research and development projects on other parallel activities concerning the special waste chain.
- OSAI A.S. SpA
OSAI A.S. works on the industrial-process automation and system integration. As an expert in industrial automation, OSAI plays an important role as an integrator, exploiting its expertise in laser technologies, advanced robotics management and application of industrial solutions developed for niche sectors. In recent years, OSAI has had the opportunity to apply the experience gained in automation in the electronics and semiconductor sectors to the world of the circular economy in general and 'dismantling' in particular. Furthermore, the company aims to offer customers modern solutions to be integrated into their production means to improve competitiveness in low labour-cost countries.
- SITEM Srl
SITEM Srl operates in the most varied industrial sectors where electrical machines are necessary. The company was founded in 2013 to mainly develop prototypes and small productions of any electrical device in all possible construction/design technologies. It has collaborated with universities, polytechnics and research centres since its inception. This is a fundamental element in the business concept and idea.
